A Prestigious Korean University

I attend one of the SKY universities in South Korea!!

When I think of college universities in South Korea, I automatically think of the SKY universities. What are the SKY universities you may ask. In Korea, (S)eoul National University, (K)orea University, and (Y)onsei University are the three most prestigious universities in the country! These are the universities that many of the soon-to-be high school graduates are competing with test scores to become part of such rich history.

Seoul National University

Never did I think I would attend one of these universities that I only see through K-dramas, but here I am! I attend Yonsei University and my experience has been amazing for the past 8 months. The school pride, students, and welcoming atmosphere just add the cherry on top. I’m currently attending the korean language school at Yonsei University.

At first, learning the language was quite the challenge, but my teachers have been nothing short of amazing and encourage me every step of the way. My classmates also helped me to enjoy being in the classroom while learning.

Korea University

After being on this campus for a while, I can definitely feel a difference in college life between South Korea and the U.S. It's been nice to experience different worlds and I'm loving every second of it. The faculty is also very caring and wants to make sure all of their students succeed in learning the language.

In the U.S., sports is a huge part of college life, and I love being in the sports atmosphere. My favorite sport to watch is basketball, so my first day on campus, my mission was to find the gymnasium. After doing a bit of searching on campus, I finally found it! Let's say Yonsei University takes pride in being huge fans of Michael Jordan. If I didn't know who Michael Jordan was, I would've thought he was an alumnus of the school! The pictures below speak for themselves.

Yonsei University's campus is rich with history as it was founded in 1885! The Underwood Hall building that I'm standing in front of is what most people recognize when they come to this campus. Many Korean dramas use this campus, specially the area near the U.H. building, making it such a key sight to see.

The best time to visit this campus is during spring or summer because the famous vines that are intertwined on the U.H. building have become full bloom and TV truly doesn't capture nature's creation.

I won’t lie, it wasn’t easy to make friends on campus when my first semester of class started. I’m a very outgoing person, but in Korea, the culture is very different when it comes to talking to strangers than the U.S. culture. In Korea, it’s not normal to talk to people you don’t know and people prefer to keep to themselves, so I had a hard time trying to approach people that way. It's been a challenge, but I have been able to try other methods that have allowed me to mingle with people that are also looking for friends! I believe I have made some friendships that will last throughout this lifetime.

I’m so excited to see what this year will show me and where this year will take me. Taking a leap forward can sometimes be scary, but I’m ready for all the adventures that are to come in my near future.

Get ready for my next adventure and I'll see you soon!;)
